Associate Dean Chen hosted the event. She kicked off the event by briefly introducing the background against which FLS was honored to be selected by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Justice as one of the top law schools to operate the nation-wide specialized Juris Master Program aimed at cultivating foreign-related legal talents. To facilitate the successful operation of this program, FLS formed a strategic partnership with four renowned law firms, including Fangda, Llinks, Jin Mao, and Zhong Lun, and the well-known SHIAC to jointly cultivate foreign-related legal talents. FLS also invited experts in academic and legal professions to brainstorm how to build foreign-related legal capacities through a tailored curriculum coupled with targeted practical training.

Dean Wang delivered an opening speech to introduce the long tradition and characteristics of FLS in internationalized legal education and express his keen expectation for integrating the forthcoming “Foreign-Related Lawyer Cultivation Program” with the established “International Class Program” to achieve optimal solutions. Subsequently, Dean Wang signed the Cooperation Agreement with Mr Wang Lingqi, Mr Qin Yuemin, Mr Ou Long, Mr Li Chenbiao, and Ms Wang Weijun, representatives of the five cooperative partners, Fangda, Llinks, Jin Mao, Zhong Lun and SHIAC.

In the second session, Ms You Xinjie and Ms Sun Ruliang, two student representatives from the International Class of 2021 and 2022, shared their learning experiences. They demonstrated that the program offered them an enriched curriculum with a wide range of theoretical and practical courses and a dual legal background of civil and common law systems.

The six honorable guests, including Mr Qin Yuemin, Mr Li Zhiqiang, Mr Li Chenbiao, Ms Tong Liping, Professor Chen Naiwei, and Deputy Director Liu Yanhao, had an inspiring discussion on the core qualities of foreign-related legal talents. Specifically, they all emphasized that a firm political stance, a high professional competence, a compound knowledge background, an international vision, and a localized mind are essential qualities possessed by a foreign-related legal talent.

The third session of the event focused on legal education for the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents. Seven honorable guests contributed remarks, including Mr Yao Hongmin, Mr Luo Qian, Mr Zhang Danian, Director Gu Quan, Ms Lu Demei, Ms Hu Linglin, and Associate Professor Xiong Hao. They shared a common understanding that a solid foundation of Chinese law is a vital prerequisite for professionally handling complex foreign-related legal issues. Moreover, the teaching of theoretical knowledge and practical training should be intertwined with each other throughout the course of legal education.

In his concluding remarks, Dean Wang expressed the determination of FLS to actively respond to China’s increasing strategic demands for foreign-related legal talents and his sincere gratitude to the five cooperative partners and all the guests for their help and support. The signing Ceremony and Symposium ended in warm applause.
