LL.M. Program in Jurisprudence
Jurisprudence is usually considered as the cornerstone and the most important theoretical course in law schools, which entails the basic theory, the general theory and the methodology of law. Meanwhile, Jurisprudence is a professional course. It not only constitutes an introductory course of law, but also generalizes the nature of various departments of law. It is designed to set up the basic concept and system of law, as well as to reveal the general rules of practices of law by discussing the most common and basic theories and problems in law from the social, political, economic, ethical and cultural aspects.

LL.M. Program in Legal History
The Legal History constitutes an indispensable part in law study in China, which enables scholars and students to gain deep insights into the comparative study of different legal systems or legal cultures around the world, especially the legal system in China. The LL.M. program in Legal History was founded by Professor YE Xiaoxin, one of the most prestigious jurists in Legal History study in China. Through decades’ endeavors of professors, scholars and students, the Legal History of Fudan Law School maintains a high standard of academic excellence.
Given the flexibility of the program, students are able to take numerous courses, including Chinese legal history, European legal history, Comparative law, as well as the history of constitution and property. Seminars and lectures by famous foreign scholars will supplement the regular curricular offerings. Through the 3-year study, students are expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of theories of law and history, and to be familiar with the comparative legal studies. LL.M. Program in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law
Administrative law is categorized as public law since it governs the relationship between the government and the individual. The same can be said of constitutional law. Both are of fundamental functions in Chinese legal system. It is also agreed that the subject of administrative law cannot be understood or taught without attention to its constitutional foundation. The LL.M. program in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law provides students with three-year systematic study of the basic theories and up-to-date knowledge, enforcement of constitutional law and administrative law.
Given the professional education of the program, students are required to study the interaction between Chinese modernization and constitutionalism as well as the historical process of constitutional law and administrative law. Through such training, the graduate is expected to be qualified to make analyses and give proper suggestions to critical theoretical and practical issues which occur in the process of rule of law applied to Chinese characteristic constitutionalism and the reform of administrative law. LL.M. Program in Criminal Law
For the increasing demand of the specialists in criminal law theories and practices, the study of criminal law is regarded growingly important to the enforcement of rule of law. The LL.M. program in Criminal Law is thus designed to offer a multitude of up-to-date academic and practical training in a broad range of subjects related to criminal law, criminology, politics and culture-based Chinese characteristic theories with a strong emphasis on professional education and practice.
Given the flexibility of the program, students can take varied curriculum, such as Chinese criminal law, criminology, comparative criminal law, theories of penalty, and so on. Within the framework, the program aims to cultivate leading and comprehensive practitioners and scholars with good morals, bilingual capacity and strong ability of independent thinking, analysis and dispute settlement, which can adapt to various career fields, such as higher education, criminal defense, prosecution and trials, etc.
LL.M. Program in Civil Law and Commercial Law
With the modernization and the development of the rule of law applied to people’s daily life including regulations and activities of civil, commercial and financial nature, civil law and commercial law are gradually playing a growingly important role in the process of judiciary reform in China. The LL.M. program in Civil Law and Commercial Law is thus designed to provide students with systematic education of basic and frontier knowledge of the major as well as empirical study of cases from courts and arbitration institutions.
Pursuant to such rationale, students are required to learn basic theories of civil law and commercial law and specialized courses such as contract law, tort law, company law, or the law governing negotiable instruments, etc. Besides, considering that the logical and critical thinking is essential for students majoring in laws, the program attaches great importance to it in the arrangement of curriculum. Through three-year training, the program aims to cultivate talented graduates who have a good command of basic knowledge on economics, sociology and physiology as well as the ability to carry out research on advanced theoretical and practical issues in the field of civil law and commercial law.
LL.M. Program in Procedural Law
The LL.M. program in Procedural Law cultivate graduates,
(1) Who are patriotic and with good morals, abide by laws and regulations, as well as actively make contributions to the modernization and development of the country;
(2) Who are expected to have a rigorous attitude towards academic research, including that they can carry out research on frontier fields of procedural law both independently and cooperatively and that they will gain deeper understanding of basic theories of procedural law and specialized knowledge such as the theory of judgements in civil procedure on the basis of three-year systematic education;
(3) Who are familiar with the current procedural laws and regulations in China and their history, as well as heated and frontier issues being discussed in academic circles and legal practice, in pursuit of attaining the ability to do academic research, to teach in institutions of high education, and to legal services;
(4) Who are proficient in at least one foreign language in order to be competent to provide foreign legal consultations.
LL.M. Program in Economic Law
With the development of sharing economy, digital economy and artificial-intelligence-related areas, the study and implementation of economic law is of great significance to maintain market competition by regulating anti-competitive conducts by entities like companies. The LL.M. program in Economic Law is therefore designed to provide students with trainings of frontier theories and law practice in a broad range of subjects related to economy, law, market governance, methodology of research, etc.
Given the flexibility of the program, students can take varied curriculum, with courses ranging from those of basic knowledge such as economic law, property law, financial law, competition law, to those in specialized areas such as tax law, banking law and security law. Within the framework, the program aims to cultivate graduates with strong ability to sophisticatedly apply theories on economy, law and market governance to intensive studies regarding theoretical problems and practical cases in the field of economic law. Through three-year learning, the graduates are expected to get familiar with different economic law systems around world on the basis of proficiency in at least one foreign language. It is also highly appreciated that the graduates will be qualified to engage in academic research or provide legal services in government agencies, enterprises, institutions and social organizations.
LL.M. Program in Environment and Natural Resources Protection Law
Considering the limitation of natural resources and the various emerging environmental problems under modernization and globalization, governments, NGOs, scholars and other concerned parties are attaching more and more importance to rule of law in environmental governance. Compared to the environmental legislation of many developed countries, China’s environmental legislation was initiated late, beginning in 1979, but nevertheless has obtained considerable achievements. As many as thirty environmental laws have provided rules regarding prevention and control of pollution, resource utilization, and ecological protection in China.
The LL.M. program in Environment and Natural Resources Protection Law is designed to offer a multitude of up-to-date academic and practical training in a broad range of subjects related to jurisprudence, international environment law, environment law in China, economic law, environmental science and principles of civil law with a strong emphasis on professional education and practice. Given the flexibility of the program, students can take varied curriculum aforementioned. Within the framework, the program aims to cultivate leading and comprehensive practitioners and scholars with bilingual capacity (or even multilingual capacity) and strong ability of independent thinking, analysis and dispute settlements.
LL.M. Program in International Law
The current order of international law, the equality of sovereignty between nations, was formed through the conclusion of the "Peace of Westphalia" in 1648. The modern study of international law starts in the early 19th century, but its origins go back at least to the 16th century, and Alberico Gentili, Francisco de Vitoria and Hugo Grotius, the "fathers of international law."
In China, with the growing number of transnational investments, cross-border commercial transactions, and talent exchange programs in international organizations, the study of international law is of prime importance under the One Belt One Road Initiative and the vision of a community of shared future for mankind.
