Fudan University Team Ranks World’s Top 16 in the 14th Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court
Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court is the oldest and most prestigious student competition in international investment arbitration law. The competition is unique because it combines the law of investment protection with the history of international law and international trade. Participating teams must write skeletons of arguments and take part in the oral arguments, using treaties, customary international law and case law.
The Fudan University Moot Court Association recruited the 2022 Fudan University team. Coached by Associate Professor Lu Zhi'an, the team consists of Zhou Zhenyi (2021 graduate) as the team leader and oralist, Hao Jarei (2021 graduate), Wu Shanshan (2018 undergraduate), Xu Jianing (2020 undergraduate) as oralists, and Fang Cuizhe (2021 graduate) as a researcher. During the competition, Dr. Liu Guiqiang and Dr. Liu Yang from Fudan University Law School and Ms. Zhao Fang from Beijing Huizhong Law Firm (Shanghai Office) kindly provided guidance and assistance to the team.
From January 19 to 21, 2022, the CIETAC Chinese (Mainland) round of the 14th Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court was held online. Fudan University team successfully stood out in the national rounds and entered the quarterfinals, ranking second place in overall scores. Finally, Fudan University team won the Second Runner-up and advanced to the global rounds. Zhou Zhenyi, Hao Jarei and Xu Jianing received the award of the best oralist of the national rounds.
During the global rounds of the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court (February 28 to March 5, 2022), Fudan University team competed against the University of Zenica team, the University of Malaya team and the Iranian MIS team, and had advanced to the next rounds. Finally, the team ranked the world’s top 16 in the international competition, a significant breakthrough for Fudan University moot court teams.
Thanks to the kind support of Fudan University Law School and its outstanding alumni, Fudan University teams have made significant progress in moot court competitions these years. The policies and resources provided by the school have allowed students to participate in major international competitions to broaden their horizons and nurture their professionalism. The competition results demonstrate Fudan University Law School’s strength in talent training and global legal education.
