Series of Events concerning "Symposium on International Law and Human Rights under Hundred Years’ Change" Successfully Held at Fudan University Law School
Series of events concerning "Symposium on International Law and Human Rights under Hundred Years’ Change" were successfully held at Fudan law school. 37 experts from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China University of Political Science and Law, Wuhan University, Shandong University, Sichuan University, Northwest University, Guangzhou University, Hangzhou Normal University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China University of Political Science and Law, East China University of Science and Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law as well as Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, brought an academic feast to the teachers and students of the school. These events were highly praised by all the attendees.
The events began with academic lectures. At 18:00 on December 13th, in the Moot Court in Leo KoGuan Law Building of Jiangwan Campus, Professor Huang Shixi, from Shandong University, was invited to deliver a lecture on the theme of “conflicts between and challenges of international investment rules and human rights rules”. Professor Huang’s lecture focused on the conflicts between international investment rules and human right rules and how to resolve them. He explained various conflicts in a comprehensive and precise way, leaving the audience with space for thought and imagination and inspiration. Professor Huang is an executive director of the Chinese Society of Private International Law, a member of the Qingdao Arbitration Commission and a member of the International Sports Law Society. Professor Ma Zhongfa of our school hosted the lecture.
Next to the lectures, the symposium on International Law and Human Rights under Hundred Year Change was held in the conference room 202 of Leo KoGuan Law Building on December 14.
37 experts and scholars from government agencies, 14 universities and 2 scientific research institutes across the country gathered in Fudan to conduct in-depth discussions and communication on the theme of “International Law and Human Rights under Hundred Years’ Change”. The opening ceremony of the seminar was addressed by Professor Du Yu, Associate Dean of our law school, and Zhang Peng, Deputy Director of the Department of Law of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
According to different contents, the seminar is divided into four modules: “Fundemental Theory of International Law and Human Rights”, “International Investment Law and Human Rights”, “International Environmental Law, International Economic and Trade Law and International Human Rights” and “Other Issues of International Law and Human Rights”. Experts and scholars conducted in-depth analyses on the topic of “International Law and Human Rights” from multiple perspectives, which brought a lot of inspiration to the attendees; The Q&A session was also exciting and enlightening.
On the morning of December 15th, Professor Sun Pinghua, postgraduate tutor at China University of Political Science and Law, visiting scholar at the University of Exeter Law School and China ’s first human rights law doctor delivered a speech on the topic of “the Chinese Elements in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. Professor Zhu Weidong from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences hosted the lecture.
The holding of this series of academic activities further deepened the research in the fields of international law and human rights, strengthened academic liaison with relevant domestic schools and relevant departments of our law school, and stimulated the young students of Fudan University Law School to study international law in the direction of human rights.
