The 17th CIETAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot (“CIETAC Cup”) was held in Beijing from November 17 to 22, 2019. More than 700 contestants from 64 university teams participated in the competition. Over 150 arbitrators, lawyers and scholars at home and abroad judged 135 matches. The number of the participating teams, contestants and matches reached a record high this year.

Fudan University Team ranked 7^th by the overall score and won the group first prize. Wang Lyuzhi and Zhao Han won the coveted award of "Best Oralist" during the General Rounds. Gao Minghao received the “Outstanding Contribution" award. The result was a breakthrough for Fudan University Team in the CIETAC Cup. After the contest, distinguished arbitrators commended the Fudan students for their critical thinking skills and fluency in English.

CIETAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot (‘CIETAC Cup’) is organized by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC). The competition, in which all submissions and oral arguments are in English, aims to improve participating students’ international commercial arbitration theory, practice and language skills.

Fudan University Team has been performing well in Vis Moot series in the past few years. Under the auspices of Professors Lu Zhian, Ban Tianke and former team members, this year’s Fudan Vis Team comprises Zhen Yuning (LL.B. 2020), Wang Lyuzhi (LL.B. 2021), Zhao Han (LL.B. 2021), Shen Jiayi (LL.B. 2021), Pan Yuqing (LL.B. 2021), Zhou Lijuan (LL.B. 2021), Gao Minghao (LL.B. 2021) , Tong Yu (J.M. 2021), Zhang Yining (J.M. 2022). After forming the Team in early October, through several weeks of laborious preparation, the Team had completed and submitted memoranda, and held several intensive practice sessions before travelling to Beijing for the event.

In recent years, Fudan University mooting teams have made remarkable progress in various competitions at home and abroad. This shall be attributed to the enthusiastic support from Fudan Law School administration and faculty members. Increasing numbers of students have got involved in famous international mooting competitions, including Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition, Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot, and ICC Moot Court Competition.
