International Students of Law School Screened the Opening Ceremony of the 19th CPC National Congress
October 18, 2017 marked the 19th CPC National Congress of the People’s Republic of China, an event anticipated by many as China continues to gain influence on the world stage. That morning, the main auditorium of the Leo Kuguan Law Building was fully packed with both domestic and international Fudan students who showed unreserved respect for China; they stood up in unison for the national anthem and bowed in silence to pay tribute to the previous leaders of the Communist Party. Students watched in complete silence a live broadcast of President Xi’s vision for the country and listened attentively as he outlined Party priorities for making China into a stronger and more powerful nation that could one day lead the world on political, economic, military and environmental issues. For international students, this was a rare glimpse at a twice-a-decade event which provided them an opportunity to better understand China’s political structure. Professors for the International Chinese Business Law program led classroom discussions of the event to help foreign students appreciate the significance of the occasion. The congress marked the start of a week-long session for the election of new leaders in the Communist Party for the next five years.
