Fourteenth Keynote Speech of the "Fudan TNCs and Law Forum" "How Legal Operation Strategies Advances the Digitalization of Legal Affairs and Switching to the AI Track"
On June 25, 2021, the fourteenth keynote speech of the "Fudan Transnational Corporations and Law Forum" and the second episode of the third series "TNCs and Information Security" was held successfully online.Mr SHI Lei, General Counsel of Oppo Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd., delivered the speech titled "How Legal Operation Strategies Advances the Digitalization of Legal Affairs and Switching to the AI Track."
At the beginning of the speech, Mr SHI Lei briefly introduced the objectives and contents of the Corporate Legal Operation Consortium (CLOC), the way CLOC operates, and how the concept of "Corporate Legal Operation Institute" (CLOI) transforms corporate legal affairs from a single-function department into a multi-function department that manages the business of a corporate. By illustrating the core competencies encompassed by the concept of CLOI through the representative practice of American top tech companies, Mr SHI further explains the capacity-building model of CLOI and the paths of the CLOI's overall product planning. Subsequently, Mr SHI demonstrated three layers of the high-tech trend of the legal industry, including enabling technologies, process support, and legal AI. Among the many embodiments of the high-tech trend of the legal industry, the intellectualization and automatization of legal activities, the increasing usage of online and smart methods in preventing and resolving disputes, and the digitalization of law are worth special attention. Then, Mr SHI utilized examples of optimal practices to display the structure of CLOI with the purposes of realizing better management of contracts, improved corporate governance, smart legal affairs, and smart adjudication online. Lastly, Mr SHI concluded this speech with suggestions for the legal industry to tackle new challenges and opportunities brought about by digitalization.
Mr WANG Jin, Senior Partner of Hiways Law Firm, and Dr LIN Zhong, founder of Leadvisor Law Firm, contributed their insights and experiences regarding the growing trend of deploying high technologies in legal affairs, how technologies such as AI are used in specific settings, and the problems of the current training model of the legal industry in the face of new challenges. In the Q&A session, students also came up with questions on how to better prepare for the high-tech trends in the legal industry.
On July 2, 2021, the third episode of this series, "The Regulatory Purpose and Restrictive Application of the Customized Search Results Clause in the E-Commerce Law," would be delivered by Dr GE Jiangqiu, Associate Professor of Fudan Law School.
